With God nothing is ever impossible.
34 And Mary said to the angel, How can this be, since I have no [intimacy with any man as a] husband?
35 Then the angel said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you [like a shining cloud]; and so the holy (pure, sinless) Thing (Offspring) which shall be born of you will be called the Son of God.(H)
– Luke 1:34,35
Did you ever wonder why God chose Mary? Why not choose one of the temple virgins who dedicated themselves to serve day and night. Surely, they were holy, set apart for his service. Why choose a lowly maiden betrothed to carpenter. Clearly, Mary questioned this.
The why me? and how can it be? syndrome.
If I added up the amount of time I spent in mental gymnastics flipping these two questions around in my mind, I would cringe at the time wasted. Why me? How are you going to do this? Yes, I question the Lord who made the heavens and the earth by His great power (Jeremiah 32:17). Are you sitting down? Settle down and think on that great truth for a minute. He created the earth that you sit on, you spin around on in your everyday, the green-blue sphere that houses your comings and goings, your pseudo self-controlled life. The God who from the foundation of the earth chose you. Jesus, the Word spoke the galaxies into being, prophesying His sacrificial death.
The same Word who knit you together in your mother’s womb with laminim, the cell adhesion molecules that hold you together.
For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is, His eternal power and divinity, have been made intelligible and clearly discernible in and through the things that have been made (His handiworks). So [men] are without excuse [altogether without any defense or justification],– Romans 1:20
His eternal power and divinity have been made capable of being understood. We can perceive His divinity by something by sight or one of our other senses. We can used our intellect to perceive His handiworks and see His divinity.
So why the questions? Why the mental struggle? Maybe it is the question, “Why me?” In other words- of what significance and worth do I have and why would you choose me to do something I cannot do? He chose you because you cannot do it. You need His divinity. You need His Strength, the Holy Spirit hovering over you as He did when the heavens and earth were formed (Genesis 1:2). You need the Word speaking, you need Wisdom. You need the power of God overshadowing YOU. He who has begun a good work in you will complete it. He who has given you a vision will bring it to pass. He who asked you to do this thing will not relax His hold on you. Assuredly not. He will be with you, strengthen you, fill you with peace. Assent. Accept. Whether it is:
- adopting a child
-
raising the child you have adopted or birthed
-
living with a chronic illness
-
running a homeless shelter
-
homeschooling your children
-
living with depression
-
had a death in the family
-
working in an ungodly environment
-
or you are just worn down by the daily living on this sphere, running, running as on a treadmill- turn to Him.
This is the message of the Christmas season, it is not about brightly colored packages. It is not a tree adorned with lights and bulbs. It is about a God who loved you so much that He chose a lowly virgin girl to bring forth HIS SON to save you. The heavens declare the glory of the Lord. The stars shine brightly speaking of His birth. Let us receive Him. Let us come to Him and worship and receive the grace we need in our time of of need. Let us listen to the confirmation that the earth displays. Let us rejoice, knowing whatever he has called us to do -He will bring it to pass. Nothing is impossible for HIM.
