The Killing Fields – The Setup
Biblical Relationship Series- Adoptive Families Part 3
Hurt children have a “button locating radar” targeting their parents for aggravation and agitation. They push the button mercilessly thus sabotaging what they need- attachment. Parents become frustrated- sucked into the vortex of control (without self-control). The child stays stuck, hurt and the home is run by a small terrorist.
For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere. Ephesians 6:12
The war can be fought with flesh and blood- the child.
The war can be fought with self- flesh and spirit.
The war can be fought in the spirit- with despotisms- an absolute power, tyranny, the rulers of this present darkness.
Do we wrestle with the flesh and blood child?
Anger for anger?
Control for control?
Violence begets violence in the flesh.
For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the [Holy] Spirit, and the [desires of the] Spirit are opposed to the flesh (godless human nature); for these are antagonistic to each other [continually withstanding and in conflict with each other], so that you are not free but are prevented from doing what you desire to do. Galatians 5:17
Adoption is warfare.
If what’s behind all of this isn’t crucified, war-fighting, eyes-open commitment, you are going to wind up with a child who is twice orphaned. He or she will be abandoned the first time by fatherlessness and the second time by the rejection of failing to live up to the expectations of parents who had no business imposing such expectations in the first place.- Russell Moore via blog.
